Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a periodontal procedure that reshapes the gum and bone levels to expose more of a tooth’s structure. It may be performed for functional or cosmetic reasons.

Functionally, crown lengthening is often necessary when a tooth is broken or decayed below the gum line. By exposing more of the tooth, your dentist can properly place a crown or filling. Cosmetically, it can also be used to correct a “gummy” smile by revealing more of the natural tooth for a more balanced appearance.
